EPISODE 3 – Distance, Silence… and a New Face
After secondary school, everything changed. Daniel got admission into a university in another state. I stayed back for extra tutorials because my grades weren’t enough. We promised to keep in touch. At first, we did. Calls every night. Voice notes. Long chats. He even sent me exam questions to practice.
But slowly… everything changed.
One-word replies replaced long chats. His calls became less frequent. He always said, “Sorry, I’ve been busy.” My heart started learning something painful — distance doesn’t only measure kilometers, sometimes it measures effort.
Then Michael appeared. He was in my tutorial center — funny, intelligent, and always willing to help. He didn’t make my heart race like Daniel did… but he was present. And sometimes, presence is louder than memories.
My brother noticed first.
“Joy, are you moving on?” he asked seriously.
I didn’t know the answer. Maybe I was… maybe I wasn’t. All I knew was that I had become someone Daniel used to talk to.
Weeks later, at 2:17 AM, Daniel finally messaged me.
“Joy, I think you should focus on your life now. I’m sorry.”
I stared at the message… my world paused.
That night… I didn’t cry. I just felt empty.
And sometimes, emptiness hurts more than tears.
Lesson Derived:
This episode teaches that love is not sustained by memories alone — it survives through effort, communication, and presence. When someone stops choosing you, no matter how deeply you once loved them, holding on only leads to silent heartbreak. Sometimes life separates people not to punish them, but to redirect them. And while it hurts, learning to let go, value yourself, and accept when something is no longer there is a step toward emotional maturity and healing.
