Episode Three: The Calamity

The wedding was low key and unproductive,
no laughter, void of promises, hope lost.

Miranda stood beside Derrick, dressed in white that felt more like surrender than celebration, she was so unhappy.

She felt a nervous thrill, her heart beating with fear and hope.

“This was just a contract”, she said to herself.

“Nothing more.” She nodded.

From the very first night, Derrick drew a line between them. Nothing more and zero emotions.

But under one night of drunken passion, forgetting the contract made, Derrick’s touch, when it came, was distant and mechanical and driven by a lost sense of composure.

Miranda told herself it didn’t matter.

Two years.

That was all she had to endure, but life had other plans.

Weeks later, the nausea began. Then the dizziness. Mirandan went to the hospital for check up but when the doctor finally spoke, everything blurred.

“Twins.”

The word echoed like thunder.
Miranda returned to the penthouse shaking, holding the test results like a life line.
Telling Derrick feels like hell.

Derrick didn’t even let her finish.

“No,” he said flatly, his face cold as stone.

“This wasn’t part of the agreement.”
She stared at him, stunned.

“They’re your children.”

“I never wanted intimacy,” he snapped. “I never wanted this.”

His rejection cut deeper than poverty ever had. Within days, lawyers replaced words.

The contract was terminated. Payments canceled.

The marriage reduced to a legal error Derrick was desperate to erase.

Miranda was discarded with the pregnancy, left all alone, and silenced.

What she didn’t know was that Derrick’s grandmother had discovered the truth. Or that the existence of twins threatened the fragile balance of the Williams empire.

As Miranda packed her bags, abandoned by the man who once promised security.

“Where do I go now?” She said
She couldn’t go to her parents again after she had lied about a job relocation for two years.

Miranda did her calculations but never did she know that life had it all planned out.
Danger quietly closed in.
Because carrying Derrick Williams’ heirs didn’t make her powerless.
It made her a target.

Lessons Learnt:

  • Power protects itself at all costs
  • Rejection can be more painful than loss
  • Some calamities are the beginning of war

Summary:
Miranda’s contract marriage collapses when she becomes pregnant with twins. Rejected by Derrick and stripped of the agreement, she’s cast out unaware that her pregnancy has placed her at the center of a dangerous family power struggle.
