Episode Two: The Hidden Agenda
Miranda got the shock of her life when Derrick proposed to her suddenly.
“Why would my boss, a handsome, powerful, wealthy man, want to marry me, a struggling secretary barely holding her life together?”
Miranda said.
The more she replayed his words, the more she tried to convince herself it had been a cruel joke. But the seriousness in his eyes told her it wasn’t.
Back at her desk, her thoughts spiraled. What was the catch? What did he really want from her?
Every unanswered question fed her unease, yet curiosity refused to let Miranda rest.
After few days, Derrick kept his distance from Miranda. No lingering looks, no private conversations but just silence.
Even so, she couldn’t help but sneak peeks at him, examining his features, looking for clues, and speculating about what mysteries might be concealed behind those sharp eyes.
One evening, just as Miranda was preparing to leave, Derrick stopped her.
“Miranda, let’s discuss the contract,” he said quietly in his office, he handed her a folder.
The terms are simple. We’ll marry in two weeks. You’ll move into my penthouse. We’ll appear happy and united.
In return, you’ll receive one hundred thousand dollars as promised.
Miranda’s hands trembled as she scanned the document.
“Why me?” She asked, meeting his gaze.
His expression hardened.
“That’s not your concern,” he said coldly. “Do we have a deal?”
She hesitated. Everything about this felt wrong too neat, too rushed.
What she didn’t know was that Derrick was cornered. His grandmother, the iron-willed matriarch of the Williams family, had issued a threat to him to marry and produce an heir or lose his position as CEO.
Meanwhile, his father’s illegitimate sons waited patiently for him to slip.
Love was never part of Derrick’s plan, he needed a solution fast. And then he noticed Miranda.
Invisible, desperate, untangled from his world.
He looked at her then not with warmth, but calculation. Miranda was Derrick’s last option.
“So, Miranda,” he said again, “do we have a deal?”
Miranda nodded, her heart heavy, unaware that she had just stepped into a life far more dangerous than poverty.
