They say some stories begin with fireworks. Mine began with a quiet afternoon and a boy named Daniel. I was 14, shy, and usually stayed with my best friend Anita. My elder brother David was the protective type — always warning me about boys. But Daniel wasn’t just any boy.
One rainy day after school, I slipped while carrying some books. Everyone laughed — except Daniel. He helped me up, gathered my books, and said softly, “You should be careful next time.” That was our first conversation, but it stayed in my heart longer than I expected.
Over weeks, we started talking more. He wasn’t loud or popular, but he had a peaceful way of making others feel valued. My brother noticed how I dressed before school. Anita teased me daily. Even the mathematics teacher assumed we were siblings because we always walked together.
I didn’t tell anyone, but I knew something was growing inside me — something I didn’t understand yet… but Daniel’s smile had already found a home in my heart.
